Pianta: cresce dai 3 ai 3,60 metri di altezza. I giovani rametti sono solitamente privi di spine. Spesso è utilizzato per le siepi e come barriera di protezione attorno ai frutteti.
Foglie: strette, ovali e obovate. I bordi sono dentati e leggermente pelosi lungo la nervatura centrale.
Fiori: di colore bianco puro, contano 5 petali e presentano numerosi stami. Possono essere singoli, in coppie o in gruppi. Spesso formano densi grappoli sui rametti più corti.
Fioritura: all’inizio della primavera, da febbraio ad aprile, prima della comparsa delle foglie.
Preparazione: metodo della bollitura.
